NMCG undertakes large scale cleanliness drive on the Yamuna River bank at Qudesia Ghat

New Delhi, 26th September: NMCG conducted a cleanliness drive on Thursday at the Qudesia Ghat on the Yamuna river, under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. This cleanliness campaign was spearheaded by the Minister Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Shri UP Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Parameswaran Iyer, Secretary, DoDW&S, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General,NMCG also joined in the Shramdaan.

The Central Water Commission, NPCC Limited, Tree Craze Foundation, Sparsh Ganga and NMCG officials also took part in the Shramdan.

Several Resident Welfare Organizations from all over Delhi also participated wholeheartedly in the cleaning activities alongside NMCG. 

For the last one year, NMCG has been continuously running cleanliness and awareness campaigns at Kalindi Kunj Ghat along the Yamuna river in New Delhi. Apart from this, efforts are on to connect people at many more Ghats on the Yamuna.

Under the Namami Gange program, 25 projects have been approved in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh at a cost of Rs 4598 crore for Yamuna conservation. In Delhi alone, 14 projects have been included for Yamuna conservation at a cost of Rs 2421 crore. The majority of these projects are for sewerage infrastructure and all are at various stages of implementation.

“Union Minister, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Shekhawat said that, “During the last five years, India, under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has achieved the unthinkable. His call to action to make cleanliness a Jan Andolan has resonated very well with the people and has led to creating an awareness and responsibility about Swachhta. Today, the way people from different walks of life gathered and conducted the cleanliness drive at Qudesia Ghat is a testament to this”. 

Shri U.P. Singh, Secretary emphasized that, “Under the Swachhta Hi Seva initiative our Ministry and its associated organizations are conducting cleanliness initiatives not only in Delhi but across the nation. To achieve the overall objective, people participation is a must. Hence, we are now trying to reach out to NGOs, RWAs, Educational Institutions and other such organizations to participate and contribute to this noble cause.”

DG, NMCG stated that, “NMCG has been conducting cleanliness drives regularly across Ganga and its tributaries. In order to make our rivers sustainable, people’s contribution is mandatory. Today, people from across diverse domain such as the Ministry, Governmental Organizations, RWAs, Non-Governmental Organizations and Students have joined us in the drive. I am very confident that as awareness increases more people will join us.”
