New Delhi: Conducting a press conference just after the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya land dispute was announced, Zafaryab Jilani, the lawyer for the Sunni Waqf Board said that the board respects the Supreme Court judgment. Zafaryab Jilani, who has represented the Muslim side in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit, also said that the board is “not satisfied” with the judgment, which ruled in favour of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.

Zafaryab Jilani, All India Muslim Personal Law Board lawyer said, “We will speak with our Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan and decide whether we will file a review petition or not. We are not satisfied with some aspects of the judgment. We will see the final judgment and decide the course of action.”

He questioned over the traveller account that court considered while giving the judgement “As per the traveller account of 1528 it was mentioned that a Masjid existed there. So it didn’t need to be mentioned that namaz is being offered there or not, which is taken as a point and on the same basis judgement was given. Which we consider not valid as there is also nothing mentioned about worship too.”

But on the other side he also Praised some aspects of the judgement and said “This judgement will help in maintaining the secular structure of the country and I hope this judgement will rule out any claims of other Masjid.”

The Sunni Waqf Board lawyer appealed people to maintain peace. “There should be no demonstration of any kind anywhere on this matter,” the Muslim side counsel said.

“We appeal to people to maintain peace and we will take whatever legal recourse we can. Land of the mosque in the inner courtyard has also been given to the other side,” he said.
