New Delhi (India), April 20, 2023: The Odisha government has issued a directive to advance the summer vacation for all schools across the state in light of the ongoing heatwave conditions.
As per the decision, all schools, including those in the government, private, and aided sectors, catering to all classes up to Standard 12, will remain closed from April 21. The concerned department will determine the date of the reopening of schools, and a detailed notification on the matter will be released shortly.
The decision was taken under the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, with School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash informing that the academic calendar had scheduled summer vacation from May 4 to June 17. However, owing to the extreme and unrelenting heat, the vacation has been extended and will continue until June 17. Should the need arise, a further decision will be taken on the extension of the summer vacation period.
To inform guardians of the development, a parent-teacher meeting has been arranged for tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Parents are to attend the meeting unaccompanied by their children.
Minister Dash emphasized that this move was in the interest of the safety and well-being of students and faculty members and was not intended to disrupt academic progress.
