One Crore Suggestions Received by Law Commission on Uniform Civil Code

New Delhi, July 30, 2023: The Law Commission of India has received an astounding one crore suggestions regarding the Uniform Civil Code, as stated by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday. He emphasized that decisions will be made after thorough discussions on these suggestions, and the public will be kept informed about the progress.

The government aims to ensure widespread participation in the process of formulating the Uniform Civil Code and has sought suggestions from every individual and section of the country. However, the time period for submission of suggestions has now come to an end, with the Law Commission deciding not to further extend it beyond July 28, 2023.

Earlier, the 22nd Law Commission of India had reached out to the public and recognized religious organizations, seeking their views and ideas on the Uniform Civil Code. The Commission values the input of all stakeholders and is keen on creating an inclusive environment for active engagement.

On a separate note, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also addressed the opposition’s recent visit to Manipur, accusing them of politicizing the serious issue. He asserted that the government is taking the matter seriously and Home Minister Amit Shah is actively involved in finding solutions.

Regarding the pendency of cases in courts, the Union Law Minister assured that the government is making arrangements for e-courts. The aim is to expedite the resolution of pending cases and provide efficient access to justice for all citizens.

The government’s efforts towards an all-encompassing Uniform Civil Code have garnered massive public interest, reflecting the significance of this comprehensive legal initiative. With an overwhelming response from the public, the next steps in the formulation of the Uniform Civil Code hold great importance for the nation’s legal landscape.
