One-Day Workshop on Psychometric Assessment and Psychiatric Tools Held at GIMS, Greater Noida

Greater Noida News (16/12/2025): A one-day workshop titled “Psychometric Assessment and Application of Psychiatric Tools in Mental Health Nursing” was successfully organised on Tuesday at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, with the objective of strengthening clinical competencies and promoting evidence-based practices among nursing professionals.
The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Psychiatry and the College of Nursing, GIMS, under the aegis of GIMS VIDYA SETU (Skill, Education and Training Unit). The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from 105 nursing students from the College of Nursing, GIMS and the College of Nursing, Autonomous State Medical College (ASMC), Shahjahanpur, reflecting a growing commitment toward advancing mental health nursing education.
The workshop began with presidential remarks by Brig. Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS, who emphasised the importance of structured psychometric assessment in delivering holistic, patient-centred mental health care. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Kiran Jakhar, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, GIMS, who highlighted the relevance of psychiatric tools in modern clinical practice.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Rambha Pathak, Dean, GIMS, who underlined the evolving role of nurses in mental health assessment and stressed the need for continuous skill-based training to meet contemporary psychiatric care demands. The theme of the workshop was formally introduced by Prof. (Dr.) Neetu Bhadouria, Principal, College of Nursing, GIMS, setting the tone for an interactive and practice-oriented academic programme.

The workshop was graced by Dr. Lokesh Shekhawat, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, ABVIMS and Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, as the Chief Guest. He delivered an insightful session on “Understanding the Concept and Psychometric Assessment in Mental Health Care”, elaborating on the clinical application and significance of widely used assessment tools such as the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS).
Subsequent sessions focused on hands-on training and practical application of psychometric tools. Dr. M. K. Srivastava, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, GIMS, conducted a practical session on HAM-D and BDI, enriched with case-based discussions and role play, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of real-world clinical scenarios.
Another interactive session was led by Dr. Kiran Jakhar, which focused on hands-on training with the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), with special emphasis on accurate assessment and scoring techniques. Dr. Nidhi Dixit, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, GIMS, conducted an engaging session on BPRS, incorporating case-based discussions and role play to enhance clinical interpretation skills.
The workshop concluded with a session on “Clinical Implications of Assessment Tools in Nursing Practice”, jointly conducted by Ms. Vijeyata Chauhan, Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellor, Government Co-Ed Senior Secondary School, New Delhi, and Prof. (Dr.) Neetu Bhadouria. The session highlighted the integration of psychometric tools into nursing care plans and emphasised the critical role of nurses in the early identification, monitoring and management of mental health disorders.

In the valedictory session, Dr. Kiran Jakhar and Prof. (Dr.) Neetu Bhadouria acknowledged the collective efforts of the organising team. Special appreciation was extended to Dr. Samiksha Khanooja, Dr. Sarika Saxena, Dr. Pallavi Mehra, Mr. Abhishek, Ms. Anju and Ms. Neha for their valuable contributions to the successful conduct of the workshop.
The event reaffirmed GIMS’s commitment to capacity building in mental health care through GIMS VIDYA SETU, aligning with its mission to develop a skilled, competent and compassionate healthcare workforce. Participants highly appreciated the workshop’s interactive format and practical orientation, noting that it significantly enhanced their confidence in using psychometric assessment tools in clinical practice.
