New Delhi, July 29, 2023: A multi-party delegation comprising 21 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) is set to arrive in Manipur on Saturday to assess the situation in the strife-hit northeastern state. The visit comes in the wake of escalating ethnic violence that began on May 3, prompting concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation.
The delegation, led by prominent MPs from 16 different parties, will embark on a two-day visit and visit two relief camps in the affected areas to gauge the on-ground conditions. The primary objective of the visit is to extend support and solidarity to the affected people of Manipur and convey the Opposition’s concern about their plight.
Ahead of their departure, several MPs from the delegation expressed their intentions. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi highlighted the collapse of the law and order situation in Manipur and called for Parliament’s attention to the concerns of the state’s people. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticized the government’s response and urged the Centre to address the situation promptly.
IUML MP ET Muhammed Basheer emphasized the delegation’s fact-finding mission and their intention to spread a message of harmony and console the victims. The visit aims to understand the collective pain of the people of Manipur and raise their voice sensitively in Parliament.
The Opposition’s efforts to bring peace and harmony between communities in Manipur have garnered significance in light of the growing violence. The delegation seeks to convey a strong message of standing with the people of Manipur and taking their concerns to the highest echelons of the government.
The 21-member delegation includes MPs from various political parties, and they are determined to represent the collective pain and grievances of the state’s populace. The visit will also include discussions with concerned officials and stakeholders, aiming to gather insights and experience to address the situation effectively.
The Opposition’s visit is seen as an effort to fill the void in addressing the crisis and ensure that the voices of the affected people are heard and acknowledged at the highest levels of governance.
