New Delhi, August 27, 2023: A case has been filed against Tripta Tyagi, a school teacher and principal at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, after a viral video showed her instructing students to slap their Muslim classmate.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation. The 7-year-old boy was seen standing helplessly as tears streamed down his face while other students followed the teacher’s directive.
Tyagi, however, has defended her actions, stating, “I am not ashamed. I have served the people of this village as a teacher. They all are with me.” She attempted to rationalize her behavior, claiming that it was necessary to “control” the children at school. She dismissed the incident as a “minor issue.”
An investigation revealed that Tyagi had made communal remarks, suggesting that the academic performance of Muslim children was poor due to the inattention of their mothers. District Magistrate Aravind Mallappa Bangari confirmed that an FIR had been registered against Tyagi, and both legal and departmental actions were being taken against her.
The child’s father expressed his outrage, recounting how his son was humiliated, beaten, and forced to stand for hours. The incident has generated significant backlash on social media, with politicians from various parties condemning it as a hate crime and criticizing the state government. Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak assured that appropriate action would be taken.
