Budget session of Parliament to commence from 31st January, first part to extend up to Feb 11

New Delhi, 30 January, 2022: The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on 31.01.2022 and is scheduled to conclude on 8th April, 2022.

The First Part of the Session will extend up to 11th February, 2022. There will be a break from 12th February, 2022 to 13th March, 2022 during which the Standing Committees will examine Demands-for-Grants of Ministries/Departments and prepare Reports thereon. In all, there will be 29 sittings – 10 in the First Part and 19 in the Second Part.

The President will address both the Houses of Parliament assembled together on 31.01.2022 at 11.00 A.M. Half-an-hour after President’s Address, the Lok Sabha will sit for transaction of business. The Economic Survey 2021-22 will be laid by the Finance Minister in Lok Sabha on 31.01.2022.

The Budget will be presented by the Finance Minister on 1st February, 2022 at 11.00 A.M.

From 2nd February, 2022 to 11th February, 2022, the House is scheduled to sit from 4.00 P.M. to 9.00 P.M. Thus, 5 hours have been scheduled per sitting during the first part of the budget session. During the First Part of the Session, the Members will be accommodated in Lok Sabha Chamber and its Galleries (except Press Gallery) and Rajya Sabha Chamber and its Galleries (except Press Gallery).

There will be two major items of Business during the First Part of the Budget Session. These are – Discussion on Motion of Thanks on President’s Address and General Discussion on Budget. The Government has tentatively fixed 4 days for Discussion on Motion of Thanks viz. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th February, 2022.

During the First Part of the Session after presentation of the Budget (i.e. from 2nd to 11th February, 2022), 40 hours of normal time will be available for various Businesses such as Question, Private Members’ Business, Discussion on Motion of Thanks, General Discussion on Union Budget, etc.

Keeping in view the threat posed by COVID-19 pandemic, elaborate arrangements have been made in the Lok Sabha Chamber and other parts of Parliament House Complex. To ensure the norms of social distancing, members will be allotted seats in Lok Sabha Chamber (282), Lok Sabha Galleries (except Press Gallery) (148), Rajya Sabha Chamber (60) and Rajya Sabha Gallery (51).

Arrangements have been made for vaccination and testing in the Complex for Members of Parliament and other visitors.
