New Delhi, 4th July 2023: During his presentation to the SCO Summit on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a clarion plea for SCO member nations to stand against terrorism for regional and global peace.
He stated that certain governments use cross-border terrorism as a policy tool and provide safe haven for terrorists. Later, he stated that people should not be afraid to criticise such countries.
He said, “Terrorism endangers regional and global peace. We will have to combat terrorism…Some countries employ cross-border terrorism as a policy tool and provide safe haven for terrorists. The SCO should not be afraid to condemn such countries. The SCO should condemn it. There should be no different standards when it comes to terrorism.”
Aside from terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed other elements of India and its position in the SCO.
He discussed the implications of language barriers on the operation of multi-nation platforms such as SCO, and how India’s AI-based language platform Bhashini will aid in overcoming the barrier. He believes Bhashini can serve as a model for digital technologies and inclusive growth.
PM Modi said, “We would be delighted to share India’s AI-based language platform Bhashini with everyone to remove language barriers within SCO. It can become an example of digital technology and inclusive growth. SCO can become a significant voice for reforms within the UN and other global institutions. I am delighted that Iran is joining the SCO family as a new member.”
In his speech, he also shed light on key programmes and conclaves that have been arranged to harness the talent of SCO’s youth. He suggested platforms such as the Young Scientist Conclave, the Authors Conclave, the Startup Forum, and the Youth Council.
The Prime Minister finally elaborated on India’s contribution in developing five pillars of cooperation within the SCO. Startup and innovation, traditional medicine, youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and shared Buddhist heritage were the five pillars he mentioned.
