Delhi, Sept 6th, 2022: New Delhi’s historic Central Vista lawns, stretching from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be inaugurated by PM Modi on 8th September after two years of redevelopment work of bridges, sidewalks and much more beautification.
The Central government on Monday announced its decision to rename the Rajpath and Central Vista lawns as ‘Kartavya Path’ in a bid to discard all symbols related to the country’s colonial past.
Central Vista was originally built during British colonial rule and later retained by the Indian government after independence.
Anticipating a large turnout of people post-inauguration of the Central Vista scheduled on 8th Sept at C-Hexagon, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday night issued a detailed traffic arrangements plan, which included several traffic restrictions and diversions.
In their advisory, the traffic police said that to facilitate the safety of pedestrians, including children, and to ensure smooth movement of traffic in New Delhi district (Central Delhi), general traffic will be diverted from at least 10 roads leading to the C-Hexagon between 6 pm and 9 pm on Thursday. Several nearby areas and connecting roads are expected to witness heavy traffic.
“Commuters using two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers are requested to plan their journey in advance accordingly and avoid the mentioned roads for their convenience,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Aalap Patel said.
This is the first project completed under the Modi government’s ambitious Central Vista redevelopment plan.
The lawns include lush greenery, several walkways, and 900 light poles making the area pedestrian-friendly, with modern and beautiful architecture all around.
