Punjab Government launches next phase of ‘Mega Job and Self Employment Fair’
Chandigarh: Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu inaugurated ‘Mega Job and Self Employment Fair’ at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran as part of the government’s ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ scheme on Friday.
At the event, Sidhu handed over job letters to 500 students by various companies and it was claimed that the packages offered ranged from 10 lakh to 30 lakh per annum. While addressing the students, the Health Minister said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had kept its promise by providing jobs to more than 9 lakh unemployed youth till date.
Describing the city as the emerging IT hub, Sidhu said that it would be considered as the country’s biggest job provider in the future. He further said that several international level educational institutes such as universities will also come up in the city soon.
Highlighting on the success of the first phase of the scheme, he told that more than 30,000 unemployed youth have been covered in the first phase of the fair, which was held across the state from September 9. He added that their target of providing 2.10 lakh jobs to the youth would be met by September 30.
He further said that in the first phase of the 5th fair, 10,000 students had also registered themselves under self-employment scheme and the Punjab Government would facilitate them in getting loans to become entrepreneurs. Besides, 2,500 students who had registered themselves for skill development training will be provided free of cost training under the Skill Development Mission, he added.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, CGC Chairman, said that their college had earned a distinction by registering its name in the Limca Book of Records as 637 companies participated in their event and provided 6,000 jobs to the students.
