The PWD Department of the Delhi Government responsible for the death of a man on the Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road —Ajay Maken.
The PWD Department of the Delhi Government responsible for the death of a man on the Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road on 30 July, 2016 when he fell into a pothole and a vehicle ran over him—Ajay Maken.
Ø On the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee WhatsApp Mobile No 98916 20771 , #JaagoYaBhaago campaign will be launched in which people can WhatsApp photos of potholes with the name of the road/gali, name of the Assembly/Ward and name of the sender.
Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Ajay Maken said according to the data available on the Delhi Government website, it was shocking to note that only 30 per cent of desilting had been carried out upto July 5, 2016 out of the 1014 roads under the PWD department. He said out of the 256 roads in South Delhi under the PWD department, desilting was carried out only on 9 roads, which was just 3.5 per cent. He said in North East Delhi, out of the 317 roads under the control of the PWD department, desilting works were completed only on 35 roads and in North Delhi, out of the total number of 432 roads under PWD, desilting was done only on 267 roads by July 5.
Shri Maken said this year too, contract for the desilting work was given by March, but despite that even till July 5, the works have not been completed, which is a clear indication that the Delhi government has been squandering the hard-earned money of the people of Delhi. He said deadline for completing the desilting work has been kept at June 15 as it takes time for the desilted garbage to dry up before it is cleared from the roads before the onset of monsoon in the Capital on June 29. He said if the desilted garbage is not cleared before the monsoon rains arrive, then it will flow back into the drains when it rains come calling. Shri Maken said that was the reason, during the Congress regime, the desilting works used to be completed much before the monsoon rains.
Government in Delhi and the BJP-ruled MCDs to immediately fill these potholes on the roads.
Shri Maken sought an inquiry why was the desilting of the roads, which falls under the Delhi Government, could not be completed by 15th June and action be taken against the guilty officials so that a lasting solution could be found to this recurring problem in future too.
