RJD demands CBI probe into NEET aspirant’s death in Patna
Patna, Jan 17 (IANS) Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, on Saturday, launched a strong protest against the Bihar government over the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case.
A delegation of RJD leaders, led by former MLA Sanjeev Kumar, met the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma and expressed anguish over the incident.
The delegation alleged that the safety of daughters in Bihar has been compromised and accused the state administration of attempting to cover up the case.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sanjeev Kumar said, “We have absolutely no faith in the local police administration. If the police were serious about an impartial investigation, action would have been taken from the very first day.”
He alleged that the investigation is being deliberately misled and asserted that justice would not be possible without a CBI probe.
The RJD leaders objected to the police’s initial claim that the student’s death was caused by food poisoning.
RJD leader Sanjeev Kumar asked how the police could reach such a conclusion even before the post-mortem report was available.
“How did the police become forensic experts overnight? This clearly appears to be a well-planned conspiracy to shield influential individuals,” he alleged.
Raising broader concerns, MLA Sanjeev Kumar also questioned the functioning and regulation of private girls’ hostels in Patna.
He demanded that all girls’ hostels in the state be mandatorily registered with the district administration and that CCTV surveillance in such hostels be directly monitored by the police headquarters.
“We have also raised these concerns with the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) and expect concrete corrective measures in the near future,” he said.
The RJD added that the issue goes beyond the death of a single student and is a matter of dignity and justice for poor families in Bihar.
RJD leader Sanjeev Kumar alleged that while the victim’s family is economically weak, the accused are influential, which he claimed explains the “indifferent attitude” of the police.
He also said that Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has indicated that if swift and decisive action is not taken against the culprits and the case is not handed over to the CBI, the RJD will launch a statewide agitation.
