The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on Tuesday gave its nod to a fleet of 20 new buses (15 Volvo and 5 non AC buses), which will operate from Noida to other cities in Uttar Pradesh, to be started at the earliest.

This fleet will operate from the Sector 34 bus depot, Morna in Noida to cities such as Aligarh, Meerut, Bulandshahr and Hapur. The UPSRTC said that private buses will form this fleet.

The move is a part of UPSRTC initiative in January to add 100 AC and non-AC buses. The UPSRTC had requested private operators to provide their buses for inter-state and intra-state services that are inadequate in Noida, forcing passengers to board AC buses from Kaushambi in Ghaziabad.

“The UPSRTC is in need of hiring these buses from private transporters as passengers demanded AC buses. It was the UP government’s decision to run buses in association with the private transporters, on certain conditions,” said Sharad Singh, regional manager of UPSRTC, Noida.

Singh said that private operators have been asked to provide the service from the bus depot within three months.

“We have given the private operators three months to report to the Morna bus depot officials. They have assured that their buses will be ready for operations soon, before the deadline,” Singh said.

“Two AC buses (of the 15) have started operations from Monday. These ferry passengers between Noida and Aligarh at 6.20 am and 7.30 am. Rest of the fleet is expected soon,” Singh said.

Earlier, the transporters had shown reluctance to run buses on terms and conditions of the UPSRTC.

“We wanted to have the fare collection rights and pay rent to the UPSRTC, which they did not agree to. However, most of the transporters agreed to UPSRTC’s terms and conditions and we accepted the offer,” a bus operator said.
