New York (12/08/2022): Author Salman Rushdie was attacked and stabbed multiple times by an assailant while on stage at an event in New York today.
Rushdie was given emergency care and was airlifted from the event by an air ambulance.
He has sustained serious injuries, as per eyewitnesses.
Rushdie has suffered years of death threats after writing The Satanic Verses.
