SC gains full strength with appointment of two new judges

New Delhi, 19th May 2023: The Indian Supreme Court today got two new justices as Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and senior lawyer Kalpathy Venkataraman Viswanathan, were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India DY Chadrachud on Friday.

The SC is now functioning at its full strength of 34 judges after the appointment order for Justice Mishra and Viswanathan as top court judges were issued from the office of President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday.

Newly appointed Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced their appointments yesterday, and their swearing-in ceremony was streamed live on the Supreme Court’s website.
