Bengaluru, 18th June 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected severe to very severe heatwave conditions in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
According to the IMD’s daily heatwave guideline released on Friday, Bihar is under a red alert warning due to the current heatwave conditions. Due to the blazing heat, the Patna district administration has prolonged the summer break for courses up to Class 12. Schools will be closed till June 24.
As a result of the excessive heat, several other states, including Bihar, have extended their summer vacations. The School Education and Literacy Department of Jharkhand has stated that schools in the state will be closed for up to classes 8 through June 17. On the other hand, schools in Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh have extended their summer break.
According to the IMD, heatwave and severe heatwave conditions may dominate in various areas of Odisha and Vidarbha for the next four days. People in Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand will face blistering temperatures for three days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and East Madhya Pradesh may be subjected to heat waves for the next two days.
For 24 hours, states such as Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Madhya Pradesh, and Rayalaseema may experience heatwave-like conditions.
