Seeking Help for Mental Health Is as Normal as Visiting a Doctor, Says BIMTECH Director Dr. Prabina Rajib

Greater Noida (13 October 2025): Marking World Mental Health Day, Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida, organized a special awareness program dedicated to promoting conversations around emotional and psychological well-being among students. The initiative aimed to sensitize youth towards understanding mental health as a vital part of overall education and personal development.
Speaking exclusively to Ten News Network, Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director of BIMTECH, shared the inspiration behind organizing the event and emphasized the growing need for open discussions on mental health among young people.
Mental well-being has become a significant area of concern among the youth, Dr. Prabina Rajib said, earlier, joint families provided emotional support — children had their uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents around. But today, many students live in nuclear families or even alone. This emotional isolation makes it crucial to talk about mental health and seek help before small issues turn into serious problems.
Dr. Prabina Rajib further added that the institution has been making conscious efforts to normalize mental health conversations on campus.
Just like we visit a doctor when we fall physically ill, it is equally normal to consult a counselor if one feels emotionally unwell or stressed, she explained.
‘Through today’s activities, we want our students to understand that seeking help is not a sign of weakness — it’s a step towards healing.’
The program at BIMTECH included interactive discussions, awareness sessions, and a street play (nukkad natak) performed by students, depicting the importance of emotional balance, resilience, and empathy in today’s fast-paced academic environment. The play highlighted how stress, competition, and loneliness can affect mental well-being and encouraged students to support one another.
When asked about the message BIMTECH aims to deliver through such initiatives, Dr. Prabina Rajib said, ‘Feeling stressed is completely normal. Some days will be good, some bad — and that’s part of being human. What’s important is how we handle tough days. We must learn to manage our emotions, stay positive, and continue moving forward. Every bad day passes, and every challenge teaches us something.’
She also linked the initiative to BIMTECH’s broader philosophy of holistic education: ‘Education isn’t confined to classrooms. True learning goes beyond academics. That’s why we encourage our students to engage in extracurricular activities like debates, discussions, and theatre. Today’s nukkad natak is not just a performance — it’s a reflection of how deeply our students understand mental health. These experiences build empathy and resilience, qualities essential for becoming not just better managers, but better human beings.’
‘As educators, it’s our responsibility to ensure our students don’t just excel academically, but also lead emotionally healthy and balanced lives,’ concluded Dr. Prabina Rajib.
BIMTECH’s commitment to student welfare and holistic learning continues to stand out among India’s premier management institutes. Through such initiatives, the institute aims to create an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel empowered to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being.
