Sharda University Hosts 8th North East Cultural Fest; Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Graces the Event

Greater Noida (22 March 2025): The 8th edition of the North East Cultural Fest “Belliatus” at Sharda University celebrates diversity, talent, and unity from across India’s North East region. Sharda University, located in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park, recently hosted the 8th edition of its North East Cultural Fest “Belliatus,” which saw a vibrant display of the rich cultural diversity from the North Eastern states of India. The event, celebrated with much fanfare, was inaugurated by the distinguished Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, alongside other notable figures including Sharda University’s Chancellor P.K. Gupta, Pro-Chancellor Y.K. Gupta, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara, and GBU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Rana Pratap Singh.
The cultural fest provided a platform for students from the eight North Eastern states, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim, and Nagaland, to showcase their unique cultural heritage. The event was a feast for the senses, with students performing traditional dances and wearing vibrant attire, truly bringing the essence of the region alive.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, was all praise for the university’s efforts in organizing such an event. He expressed, I appreciate Sharda University for hosting this event, which provides an opportunity for students to learn about the traditions, cultures, and way of life of the North East. It also allows students from the North East to interact and share their rich cultural experiences with the rest of the country. The university has created a remarkable ecosystem that nurtures talent and promotes unity.
Sangma also applauded the university’s infrastructure, noting that Sharda University had become a hub for educational excellence. He stated, The facilities here are world-class, and the campus environment feels like a second home. I am confident that the students here have a bright future ahead.
One of the highlights of the event was the performance by students from Arunachal Pradesh, who captivated the audience with their traditional “Dumru” dance, while the Assamese students took center stage with a spectacular Bihu performance, wearing traditional costumes and playing traditional instruments. The audience was left in awe as the energy and grace of the performances filled the air.
Chancellor P.K. Gupta, in his speech, expressed his pride in the diversity and the incredible talent the North Eastern students brought to the campus. At Sharda University, we not only focus on academics but also strive to provide an environment where students can express themselves and celebrate their cultural identities. Our students from the North East represent the vibrant colors of the region, and their participation in such events reflects our commitment to holistic development, said Gupta.
The event also witnessed the presence of key officials such as Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Paramanand, Director of Admissions Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Director of PR Dr. Ajit Kumar, and Deputy Registrar Ehtesham, among other distinguished guests.
The evening saw an emotional address by CM Conrad Sangma, who highlighted the significance of the event. This program is meaningful because it connects students to their roots and reminds them of the values and identity they carry with them. It’s essential to remember who you are and take pride in it, said Sangma. He further stressed the importance of North East India as a vital part of the country, not just in terms of culture but also its growing youth population, which holds the potential to contribute significantly to the nation’s progress.
Sangma also discussed the importance of nurturing the potential of youth, particularly in North East India, and stressed the need for opportunities and discipline to help them realize their potential. He added, The North East has a young population with 45% under the age of 19. This presents both opportunities and challenges. With the right guidance, they can drive the region and the country toward greater prosperity.
The Chief Minister also took a moment to reflect on a recent tragedy in Meghalaya, where 30 children from the state suffered food poisoning during their visit to Karnataka, which resulted in two tragic deaths. This tragedy has saddened me deeply, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families, Sangma said, showing his concern for the well-being of the people of his state.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for gracing the event and for his leadership in promoting the North East as a key part of India’s development. He also thanked the students for their hard work and dedication in preparing for the festival.
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks from Pro-Chancellor Y.K. Gupta, who remarked, We are proud to host such an inspiring cultural fest, and it is our hope that students who graduate from Sharda University will not only contribute to the growth of North East India but also play a crucial role in the development of the entire country. We believe that events like these help foster a sense of unity and shared purpose.
