New Delhi, July 31, 2023: A Shiv Sena MLA, Sanjay Shirsat, has come under severe criticism for making derogatory and misogynistic remarks against Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is associated with the Uddhav Thackeray-led group.

Shirsat, who is aligned with Eknath Shinde’s faction within the party, made an outrageous claim that Priyanka Chaturvedi was nominated to the Rajya Sabha solely because of her beauty, allegedly at the behest of Aaditya Thackeray.

According to Shirsat, former MP Chandrakant Khaire, who is also associated with the Uddhav Thackeray faction, informed him about this supposed reason behind Priyanka Chaturvedi’s nomination.

In response to these offensive remarks, Priyanka Chaturvedi hit back at Shirsat, labeling him a traitor who had compromised his integrity and principles. She took to Twitter to assert her position, stating that she does not require anyone to judge her appearance or question her achievements.

“I don’t need a traitor to tell me what I look like and why I’m where I am,” she tweeted, adding that Shirsat had demonstrated his warped views on politics and women.

Aaditya Thackeray, reacting to the controversy, expressed his disdain for Shirsat’s comments, deeming him to possess a “rotten mind.” The young leader wondered how individuals with such regressive mindsets could sustain themselves in politics.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, a former national spokesperson for the Congress party, joined the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in 2019. Since then, she has been actively involved in the party’s activities and has been a vocal advocate for various issues.

The reprehensible comments made by the Shiv Sena MLA have drawn widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum. The incident has once again brought attention to the urgent need for greater gender sensitivity and respect for women in politics and society at large.
