Siblings in Politics: BJP’s Video Fuels Speculation on Rahul-Priyanka’s Relationship

New Delhi, Sep 03, 2023: The official Twitter handle of the BJP recently shared a video raising questions about the relationship between Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, making claims of political conspiracies and strained ties within the Congress party’s first family.

The video suggested that Priyanka Gandhi played a role in advising Rahul Gandhi not to apologize during the Modi surname controversy that led to his loss of Parliament membership.

The video also questioned the absence of a rakhi on Rahul Gandhi’s wrist on Raksha Bandhan, implying a disconnect between the siblings. However, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate dismissed these claims, asserting, “Get both your eyes and brain treated. Rahul ji had a rakhi on the day of Raksha Bandhan. In fact, he keeps a rakhi throughout the year.”

Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi condemned the BJP’s official handle for what she termed a “low” level of discourse and “desperation to be in power.”

Rahul Gandhi, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, was in Karnataka to launch the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana, which provides ₹2,000 per month to women heading households. Social media users shared clips from the launch event where Rahul proudly displayed the rakhi tied by his sister.

The video released by the BJP questioned the reality of the relationship between Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, beyond the public facade. The narrator raised doubts by citing instances of family feuds in other political dynasties.

The video alleged that while Priyanka Gandhi had campaigned vigorously in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi’s leadership had resulted in several election defeats. It also speculated that Priyanka Gandhi’s handshake snub after the Karnataka win was indicative of a deeper discord.
