‘The Kerala Story’ becomes Second Highest Grossing Movie in 2023, surpasses ‘Tu Jhuti’ and ‘Kisi ka Bhai’

New Delhi (India), 17th May 2023: Controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ has and is continuing to attract audience to the theatre.The film has surpassed Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ to become the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023.
The film, starring Adah Sharma, earned Rs 9.65 crore on its 12th day, taking the total to Rs 156.69 crore.
Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, tweeted the report of the film’s box office figures on Wednesday. He wrote, “#TheKeralaStory is now the SECOND HIGHEST GROSSING #Hindi film of 2023… Overtakes #TJMM and #KBKJ to claim the second spot… [Week 2] Fri 12.35 cr, Sat 19.50 cr, Sun 23.75 cr, Mon 10.30 cr, Tue 9.65 cr. Total: ₹ 156.69 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice.”
The Kerala Story comes in second place after Shah Ruk Khan’s ‘Pathaan,’ which is the year’s highest-grossing picture. ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ and ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ are the third and fourth highest-grossing Hindi films, respectively, with Ajay Devgn’s Bhola coming in third.
While the film has been banned in West Bengal and screenings have been cancelled in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh have declared it tax-free.
The Producers Guild of India have condemned the prohibition of the film.
On May 5, the film ‘The Kerala Story,’ starring Adah Sharma, was released in theatres. The film, which was directed by Sudipto Sen, alleges that the four women in the film along with countless others from Kerala are forced to convert to Islam and then recruited by the terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS).
