New Delhi: Jagjivan Ram, popularly known as Babuji, was a Dalit icon who dedicated his life for betterment of the untouchables. On his 111th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Self-made and industrious, the contribution of Babu Jagjivan Ram can never be forgotten.

on the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram Smriti and paid tributes to freedom fighter and former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 111th birth anniversary. The Programme was also graced by the Chief Guest former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress veteran Meira Kumar.

The Sammelan was inaugurated by the Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Eminent Poets like Ashok Chakradhar, Sunil Jogi, Rahat Indori, etc. Entertained the audience with their poems.

“A prominent Dalit icon, Babu Jagjivan Ram was a freedom fighter and national leader who fought for upliftment of the downtrodden. He worked hard to uplift the poor and weaker sections of the society. He urged people to draw inspiration from him and try to achieve his goals.”
Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress veteran Meira Kumar Said,” Jagjivan Ram was champion of the depressed classes in society. A true democrat and a distinguished Union minister, he was a towering personality and played a prominent role for over a half century in Indian politics.”
“Hazaro javabo se achi hai meri khamoshi, na jane kitne sawalo ki Aabru Rakhe” With this the audience Siri Fort Auditorium witnessed the poetry, humour and comic punches in Hasya Kavya Prastuti by the versatile and renowned author and poet of comic verses, Padam Shri Dr Sunil Jogi.
