New Delhi, 22nd June 2023: Twitter has recommenced paying Google Cloud for its services, mending a difficult relationship that arose after Elon Musk purchased the social network and stopped paying Google and other companies.
According to a person familiar with the matter, Twitter’s new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, assisted in getting the relationship back on track.
According to a person, who requested anonymity said, as part of the discussions, which have included talks between Yaccarino and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, the two companies are also negotiating a broader partnership that could include advertising and Google’s use of Twitter’s API (application performance interface).
According to the source, Musk has been supportive of the relationship’s current course. Another source with knowledge of the situation verified that there are no present concerns between the companies.
Twitter and Google representatives declined to comment.
Twitter used to pay Alphabet Inc.’s Google Cloud between $200 million and $300 million per year. For data analysis and machine learning, the social media company relies heavily on Google Cloud.
Google first had difficulty reaching Musk to address the overdue invoices. According to two of the people, Google personnel attempted to contact him through contacting people at his space exploration firm, SpaceX, which also does business with Google Cloud.
However, Google had various tools at its disposal to force Twitter to pay, such as limiting access to the cloud computing platform.
