New Delhi (India), 24th March 2023: Twitter has stated that as of April 1 all users will no longer receive “Legacy” blue checks. Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, stated in November 2022 that the company would remove these checkmarks “in the coming months.”
According to the CEO the method of distributing the blue ticks in the past was ‘corrupt and nonsensical’
An official tweet by Twitter Verified that was posted on March 24th says, “On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter.”
The tweet further provided users and organisations who wish to keep their blue ticks with two separate links to subscribe to ‘Twitter Blue’.
For people who are unaware, Twitter Blue is a paid subscription service.This paid Blue membership for Twitter is now accessible to users everywhere.
Subscribers to this service will receive a blue tick, be able to post tweets of up to 4,000 characters, edit them, see fewer ads, and share videos up to 60 minutes long in Full HD quality.
Additionally, messages from subscribers will appear on the Twitter timeline with more prominence.
The subscription service was made available to Indians in February and it is priced at Rs 650 per month (website) and Rs 900 for all Android and iOS users. Alternatively, there is also an annual plan priced at Rs 6,800 per year.
