Ugandan Woman who swallowed 992 gram of cocaine held at IGI Airport, Delhi

30 December, New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Custom officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport apprehended a female passenger from Uganda under section 43(b) of the NDPS Act.

The passanger had swallowed 91 capsules of cocaine weighing 992 grams. The estimated value of the drug is Rs. 14 Crores, said Additional Commissionar of Customs on Wednesday.

He added that customs officials identified a Ugandan passenger arriving at Terminal 3 at IGI Airport a few days ago.

According to him, the woman was admitted to RML hospital and it took four days for recovery of all 91 cocaine-filled capsules from her body.

He said, “It is a rare case where around one kg has been concealed inside the body in specially designed pellets containing cocaine. In normal cases, these drug carriers conceal around 400-500 grams inside their body. It could be life-threatening if these capsules burst inside the stomach.”

Customs Dept furthermore said, “This is the 24th case of seizure of NDPS covered drugs at Delhi airport this year. 32 passengers have been arrested so far. The estimated value of drug seizures would go into more than Rs. 845* crores.”

Further investigation in the matter is under process.
