Woman’s body fished out of Hindon canal
Ghaziabad: The decomposing body of an elderly woman was found floating in Hindon canal on Tuesday near Kanwani bridge in Sector 3 of Vaishali. Passersby noticed the body and informed police, who later fished out the body.
“The body is almost fully decomposed. The woman’s identity is yet to be established,” said Gorakhnath Yadav, SHO Indirapuram PS. “She’s about 50 years old. We’ve sent it for post mortem and probing the case. Prima facie, it seems the woman committed suicide but we’re yet to lodge an FIR,” said Yadav.
Passersby noticed the body in the canal around 1.30pm on Tuesday and called in police. The woman appears to have died 3-4 days ago, said police. The 7.5 km Hindon canal bifurcates Indirapuram, Vaishali and Vasundhara and is about 12 ft deep. Despite fenced banks, several people have committed suicide in it in the past by jumping into it.
