Gurugram (India), 04/08/23: Zomato announced a net profit of Rs 2 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal year on August 3, sparking a rush of memes and jokes on social media.
This is the first time the foodtech company has turned a profit, and CEO Deepinder Goyal was subjected to some lighthearted rigging as a result.
Goyal handled it all with class, even reacting to a humorous tweet from one user. After Zomato claimed a profit of Rs 2 crore and revenue of Rs 2,416 crore, Twitter user Veerendra Hegde wrote to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal in a tweet.
He wrote, “On lighter note: 2 core mujse le leta bhai, etna ghar ghar jaake khana deliver karne ki kya zaroorat thi (On a lighter note: You could have borrowed Rs 2 crore from me. What was the need to go from house to house delivering orders?)”
The CEO of Zomato recognised the humour in the tweet and responded accordingly. He replied “Tweet of the day. ROFL!”
Hundreds more others, on the other side, congratulated Zomato and its employees on earning a profit. Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar described Zomato as a bright beacon for all investors and startups, while Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma commended the Zomato and Blinkit teams on their tremendous efforts.
Deepinder Goyal, in a letter to shareholders, stated that the company has been working hard to make its business less complex and to place the appropriate people in the right places inside its businesses. He stated in May that the corporation was optimistic in achieving profitability across the board in the next four quarters.
