Noida : 2.2 Lakh fine imposed on contractors by Authority officials for not removing slit after cleaning drains

Cleaning of drains in all over Noida is going on at rapid pace. Learning a lesson from last year’s flood like situation which happened in many parts of Noida, the authority is very serious about getting all drains cleaned and sewage blockage removed before the onset of monsoons.

However not many contractors engaged in drain cleaning were doing the things as expected. Many residents were complaining of slit being left unattended right across the drain for days and weeks. As per norms of Noida Authority, the slit has to be removed with stipulated time of 48 hours after it has been taken out from the drain. If not, a fine of 20,000 can be imposed on the contractor.

Heeding to general feedbacks, Noida Authority ACEO RK Mishra today ordered five Project Engineers to inspect the slit treatment mechanism of different contractors and to penalize those who may be found to be flouting norms.

In the inspection that followed, 11 contractors were penalized of 2 Lakh 20 thousand rupees. Similar inspections will continue in the city for the upcoming days as well to ensure the removal of slit from site within stipulated period.

Previously it has been also seen that slit often washes away back into drains because on not being removed from the site. Hence this year’s strict adherence of norms and imposition of financial penalty are surely a welcome change.
