Ghaziabad: A van used to ferry schoolchildren caught fire outside the Seth Anandram Jaipuria School in Ghaziabad on Monday. Nobody was hurt in the incident. The driver of the vehicle is absconding.

The incident took place outside the school’s premises in Sector 14, Vasundhara. Fire department officials received information about the blaze around 7.50 am. A fire tender was rushed to the spot from the Vaishali station to douse the flames.
“The owner of the vehicle has not been identified yet. The vehicle did not have any registration number plate on it, and the driver has fled,” said a fire department official. “We suspect the fire was caused from the CNG kit of the van, which seems to have been installed locally without any safety measures,” he added.
Officials of the school management said a major tragedy could have taken place had there been kids inside the van. Witnesses told school officials that the van’s driver had parked it outside the school after the children de-boarded.
According to school officials, the van had been privately hired as a chartered vehicle by a group of parents to ferry their kids to and from the school daily.
