12 people killed by #dengue so far this year

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Dengue has so far claimed 12 lives this rainy season as about 8,000 cases were reported in the country, with Karnataka registering five deaths, the government said today.

Kerala and Odisha have registered maximum number of cases with 2,252 and 2,171 incidents respectively.

Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have not reported a single dengue case in June and July.

In a written response to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Faggan Singh Kulaste said during the current rainy reason (June and July), a total of 7,870 dengue cases have been reported.

“A video conferencing was taken with the state health ministers and health secretaries of 11 states to review progress of vector controlling activities and preparedness for prevention and control of dengue, malaria on July 12.

“Two review meetings have been convened by the Health and Family Welfare Minister (J P Nadda) on the preparedness for dengue in the National Capital with the Health Minister of Delhi, secretary (Health and Family Welfare), mayors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council and other senior functionaries on April 29 and July 11,” the minister said.

Kulaste said a user friendly app “India Fights Dengue” was launched by Nadda on April 7 and states have been requested to declare dengue as notifiable disease.
