Faridabad: In probably the first of its kind action taken against the polluting units, Municipal Corporation of Faridabad to cracked upon the dying units operating in village Mawai. While the team of MCF sealed the tube wells of some units, about 18 units closed their units by themselves. The MCF team led by Assistant Engineer Padam Bhushan sealed a factory also during the drive. The locals extended their help in the operation.

Recently the NGT has expressed its displeasure over inaction on more than 40 dying units running in village Mawai of Faridabad. These units have been draining the water containing chemicals in the nearby drain that used to carry this contaminated water directly into river Yamuna. After the stringent notice by the NGT all these units were served with notice after which the action was taken today.

The dying units, against which action was taken, were accused of using tube well installed on illegal bore. There were some units that used to drain the contaminated water into the underground water tables, thus contaminating the water beneath. It was informed by the MCF that the team that swung into action today included two officials from Pollution Department.

Assistant Engineer MCF Padam Bhushan informed that about one dozen tube wells were sealed while many were broken by the team in a way that they cannot be used again. He said that about 20 owners of dying units closed their units at their own. In case of one factory, the owner was neither ready to close the factory nor discontinuing the process. Hence, the factory was sealed by the MCF unit. The officer informed that locals were also quiet uncomfortable with these dying units that led them to help the team of MCF. He further informed that all the factory owners of the area have been informed that in case they try to resume their operations, they would be subjected to police action under the relevant rules.
