Shimla, 28th May 2023: The state authorities confirmed that over 250 people stranded in the Baralacha La, Lahaul, and Spiti districts following a snowfall were rescued after a multi-agency nightlong operation.
The tourists couldn’t move their light vehicles and motorbikes, which were over 90 and 30, respectively and were assisted by the Lahaul and Spiti Police, Border Roads Organisations and the Mountain Journey Jispa, who now shifted to rescuing those stuck with their heavy motor vehicles.
The operation, launched on Friday, began clearing the 10-km pass at the Baralacha La, saw teams coming from the Darcha point and a team of Lahaul Hotelier Association, Tourism Society and Mountain Journey Jispa while two police teams were rushed from Keylong for the rescue operation.
The light motor vehicles were shifted to much safer places in the 15-16 hour operation, with reports confirming that people still needed to be rescued.
The official police authorities, however did not give any confirmation on the matter.
