5 Easy Microwave Recipes Just for Kids

Whether you’re cooking for your kids after a day of hard work or whether they’re home alone and you want them to make a home cooked meal, here are easy microwave recipes just for kids!

Steamed Green Beans

What you need: Around 450 grams of trimmed green beans, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup water, ½ teaspoon pepper.

Total time: 20 minutes

How to make: Take a casserole dish and add green beans and water. Cook in the microwave for 15-18 minutes. Check to see if the beans are tender. Then drain the water, add salt and pepper and mix well. 

BBQ (Barbecue) Chicken

What you need: Chicken breasts, ¼ cup grated cheddar cheese, ½ cup barbecue sauce.

Total time: 10 minutes

How to make: Take a microwave dish and place the chicken breasts on top. Then brush the top with the BBQ sauce. Turn on the microwave and leave them in for 4 to 5 minutes. Then sprinkle the chicken with cheddar cheese and place back in the microwave for 2 to 4 minutes. 

Mac ‘n’ Cheese

What you need: 100 grams dried macaroni, ½ cup shredded cheese, 1 cup water, ½ cup milk, salt to taste. 

How to make: Up to 10 minutes

How to make: Boil the macaroni in water and salt for 2 minutes in the microwave. Stir in intervals until it becomes soft and taste to see if it’s cooked. Then drain the water and pour the milk and cheese and heat for 30 seconds. Keep stirring and heating until a creamy sauce is formed out of the milk and cheese.

Eggless Cookies

What you need: 1 ½ cup flour, 1 cup butter, 1/4th cup milk, 1 teaspoon vinegar, ½ cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon Vanilla essence. 

Total time: 50 minutes

How to make: Add flour, butter, sugar, vinegar, milk, and vanilla essence in a bowl and mix well to make a smooth dough. Make small balls out of the dough and use a spoon to flatten it. Place 6 per microwave baking tray. Alternatively, you could use a greased greaseproof paper. Cook for 1.5 to 2.5 minutes depending on the size of the cookies. Turn the cookies halfway. Allow the cookies to cool and then serve. 

Eggless Brownies

What you need: 2 teaspoon maida, 2 teaspoon powdered sugar (or as per your taste), 2 teaspoon milk, 2 teaspoon coco powder, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Optional ingredients include: 1 teaspoon of Nutella/maple syrup/chocolate syrup/peanut butter, chopped walnuts.

Total time: 7 minutes

How to make: Add all ingredients in a microwave mug and mix well. Then heat for up to 2 minutes in the microwave (depending on your settings). Enjoy this mug cake with ice cream on top. 

These are some starters, main course, and dessert options that you can make within minutes in a microwave. If you’re still old-schooling these recipes by cooking on the stove because you don’t have a microwave, then you should consider getting a microwave on rent to speed up your cooking!
