BTech student crushed to death by bus
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased Vaishali Verma was on a scooty and she lost balance after colliding with a stray bull that was engaged in a fight with another bull on the stretch between Hapur Chungi and Diamond Palace. “A UP Roadways bus that was moving in the same direction as the scooty, could not stop in time and ran over the girl,” said Ashok Sisodiya, SHO, Kavi Nagar police station.
The accident took place at 5:30 pm in front of Sarvodaya Hospital. Vaishali was rushed in a critical condition to the hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. “The driver had fled from the spot, but we have impounded the bus. We are trying to nab the driver,” Sisodia added.
An FIR has been lodged against the driver, based on a complaint lodged in Kavi Nagar police station by Hariom Verma, the father of the deceased.
The victim’s family, which lives in Vivekanand Nagar, told TOI that the woman was a final year BTech student in a college located near NH-58. “Vaishali was supposed to return home by 6 pm. When she did not reach home in time, family members went out to search for her. We noticed a crowd at the accident site and saw her scooty. Locals informed us that she had been crushed by a bus,” said Vaishali’s uncle Sachin Soni.
