#DMRC gets to work in #Ghaziabad

After struggling with land issues for nearly eight months, the decks have finally been cleared for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to carry out work on the second corridor in Ghaziabad. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has finally overcome land hurdles at two sites for upcoming stations on the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda line.

Of the eight stations meant to come up on the 9.6-kilometre line, the GDA had received clearance for six stations. It was only recently that the authority got the required consent to go ahead with the construction of two other proposed stations – Shyam Park and Mohan Nagar stations.

Speaking to The Hindu , the GDA Officer on Special Duty D.P. Singh said, “For the Mohan Nagar station, we had the land on the left side of the GT road if we come from Dilshad garden. But, a patch of 720 square metres on the right was stuck as it was owned by Mohan Meakin Limited. Now, the company has agreed and we will get clearance from them by Saturday.”

For the Shyam Park station, Mr. Singh said the GDA had decided to make a minor change in the route. “The proposed route was to build the station on vacant land within the premises of the Sahibabad police station. But since we did not get clearance from the police, the station will come up 50 metres west of the police station,” he added.

The Shyam Park station will be built on the service road and a green belt patch owned by the GDA. The land where the station was originally proposed is used by the police as a junk yard for seized vehicles. Reports, meanwhile, suggest that the police do not have legal ownership of the space.

The elevated line, which is expected to be ready by October 2017, will cater to more than 1 lakh commuters.
