Blocked highways mount biz losses
Gurgaon: Protests in the city may have come to a halt, but industry is still suffering from four consecutive days of blocked highways in the state. Maruti, which has been shut for the past three days, claimed it has lost out on production of 8,000 cars. Maruti stocks took a marginal hit this Monday.
Maruti was the first auto major to be hit because of its ‘just in time’ inventory model. Others, though, have also started feeling the pinch.
Hero Motocorp reported a 30% fall in production. “Supply chain has been hit and the Gurgaon plant has no space left to stock more vehicles,” said a senior manager. Along with Maruti, Hero might not open on Tuesday. Production at Sona Steerings in Gurgaon also stopped on Monday.
