Offensive chat against Mayawati, probe ordered

GHAZIABAD: The crime branch initiated a probe on Monday into a complaint over circulation of objectionable messages pertaining to BSP chief Mayawati in a WhatsApp group in the city. The probe was ordered by Ghaziabad SSP K Sunil Emmanuel after a group of people claiming to be BSP supporters, lodged a complaint.

However, no case has been registered by police in the matter as of now. “The crime branch has been forwarded the copy of the complaint. It has been asked to investigate and ascertain the genuineness of the complaint. Necessary action in accordance with the law will be taken only after the crime branch completes its probe,” he said.

The district unit of BSP in Ghaziabad, however, distanced itself from the entire issue. “We don’t have any idea as to who the persons were that have submitted the police complaint. The district unit of BSP has no role to play in this matter,” said Prem Chand Bharti, BSP district president.
