NEW DELHI, Nov. 19—On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Smt. Indira Gandhi, a function was organized at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. DPCC president Shri Ajay Maken said Smt Indira Gandhi was a leader of the masses who safeguarded the interest of the poor, weak, underprivileged, the old, widows, women, children and the common people. He said Smt. Indira Gandhi took several momentous decisions, dynamic initiatives and measures to eradicate poverty, unemployment and housing problems in the country through the 20-point programme and took the country on the road to development and progress with a modern vision.
Shri Ajay Maken and other leaders paid floral tributes on Smt. Indira Gandhi’s portrait. Other prominent leaders who paid floral tributes to Indiraji were Ex MLAs Kunwar Karan Singh, Veer Singh Dhingan, Amrish Gautam, Madan Khorwal, Satender Sharma, Hari Kishan Jindal, Mohd. Usman, Abdul Wahid.
At the direction of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, all the 280 block Congress committees of Delhi held functions to create awareness about the policies and programmes of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi.
Shri Ajay Maken said said Indiraji was among the tallest leaders of the world and the dynamic political and administrative steps she took in solving the problems and issues of the country were legendary. He said Smt Indira Gandhi had always looked ahead, and with the help and support of friendly nations, made India a nuclear power and helped make great strides in all spheres of development.
