New Delhi, Dec 14: After a four-day break, Parliament will reconvene today. With only three days remaining in the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress will lock horns over the demonetization. It is learnt that the government and Opposition have reached to an agreement to hold debate on demonetisation as a no-rule discussion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be present during the discussion, may speak on the demonetization issue. Leaders of Opposition parties will hold a meeting shortly to decide their strategy in the House.
Both BJP and Congress have issued whip asking MPs to be present in both Houses of the Parliament for the rest of the Winter Session. Earlier the Parliament witnessed logjam over the rule under which the demonetization issue should be discussed. Now, the government and Opposition are fighting over who will begin the debate.
The government wants Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to open debate over demonetization, however the Opposition parties are not in favour of this. While there is no clarity whether PM Narendra Modi will speak in the Parliament, Congress is particularly keen that its vice-president Rahul Gandhi speaks in Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi said that there will be an earthquake when he will speak on the demonetisation “scam” in the Parliament.
