Central Board of Secondary Education released the CBSE Class 10 and 12 Date Sheet for 2017 examinations yesterday. The date sheet for Class 12 was revised, with exams now starting from March 9. The revised schedule of examinations is due to Assembly Polls in 5 states. Though officials had commented it would not affect the dates, the schedule was pushed back to March 9. This though helps students from being free of distractions during election campaigning, does not help students with science subjects. Parents and teachers are unhappy with the fact that JEE Main 2017, scheduled on April 2, 2017 is too close to the CBSE Class 12 Chemistry paper. The said paper on March 25 is hardly a week away from the pen and paper test for JEE Main 2017.
A parent of a class 12 student who is planning to write both JEE Main 2017 as well as NEET 2017 was very worried. The fact that the JEE Main 2017 is on April 2 and that CBSE Biology Class 12 paper is on April 5 worries the parent. “Entrance Examinations are a lot of stress for students. With the papers so close by, students might end up spoiling both the exams,” mused a teacher of a prominent CBSE affiliated school in Delhi, NCR. The close proximity of two such examinations is certainly a matter of concern for many. One parent from Noida worried that it was all too close. With the state going to polls the parent was worried about too many things happening at the same time for his ward.
Another teacher approached, however, said that there should not be a lot of reason to worry. He emphasizes that students should learn how to prepare for class 12 board exams and JEE Main together. For the students, he further insists that the focus should be on acing the CBSE Class 12 Board Examination Results. “You can always try JEE Main again but focus should squarely be on Class 12 Boards. Students forget that there are more fields than Engineering,” commented a Physics teacher of another school.

Students writing the JEE Main 2017 are required to have appeared in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the qualifying examinations. For students writing the NEET 2017, physics, chemistry and biology are compulsory subjects of the qualifying examinations. The date for NEET 2017 is still awaited but is suggested to be conducted in May, 2017. For the JEE Main 2017, however, which is scheduled on April 2 and April 8 (offline and computer based test, respectively) the dates of examinations present concerns.
