Mulayam Singh holds alliance responsible for Samajwadi Party’s debacle in Uttar Pradesh, says no one likes Congress

Lucknow, March 12: The Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday blamed SP-Congress alliance for the party’s poor performance in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017. The BJP on Saturday trampled its rivals SP-Congress and the BSP in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls by registering a thumping victory and gaining over two-third majority in the 403-House with 312 seats. On the other hand, SP won only 47 seats and its ally Congress got 7 seats. BSP won 19 seats .

While speaking to Economic Times, Mulayam said that the Samajwadi Party would have come to power if there was no alliance. “No one likes Congress. I have publicly opposed Congress,” he was quoted as saying. While denying the claims that his support was with the alliance, he questioned the need for alliance when the Samajwadi Party came to power in 2012 with full majority.

Noteworthy, he held the arrogance of the alliance responsible for the downfall of the Samajwadi Party in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017. “The arrogance of the alliance is responsible for the debacle… I don’t know if you saw a thela-wala’s byte on TV who said I have always voted for SP but not this time as Netaji has been insulted,” he was quoted as saying by the Economic Times.
