Service charge on food and commodities to be revised : Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister

The Union government has planed to issue an advisory to all states asking them to take down wrong imposition of service charge on food and drink bills.
Briefing the media in New Delhi, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the service charge does not exist and it is being wrongly charged.
He further said that, ministry has prepared an advisory on this issue and sent it to the PMO for approval. Receiving of service charge without taking customer’s consent will be considered as unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act.
The states were told to ensure that hotels and restaurants disseminate this information through displays in their premises.
