Motorola releases critical security update for Verizon Moto G5 Plus in US; Here’s why you should install it immediately

Lenovo-owned Motorola has released a security software update for the recently released Moto G5 Plus in US.

Few days ago, Moto G5 Plus owners, particularly the ones subscribed to VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) service of Verizon Wireless, complained that they could not connect to 911 emergency services.

Taking note of the issue, Motorola immediately launched an internal investigation and found a bug in the firmware that caused the issue.

Now, the company has released a firmware update with the bug-fix. In the update notification, Motorola has apologised for the issue and has urged users to upgrade their device to the new software immediately.

If you have received OTA (Over-The-Air) notification message for this update:

1. Select “Yes, I’m in.”

2. After the software is downloaded, select “Install now.”

3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.

4. Your phone is now updated.

Since the OTA roll-out process is being carried out in phases, the software is expected to reach the corners of the country by this weekend.

Until then, device owners can check for updates manually by going to Settings >> About Phone >> System Updates >> check for the new firmware.
