A delegation of Swaraj Abhiyan leaders and members, led by Yogendra Yadav (Founder Member Jai Kisan Andolan) met the Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly & DMK Working President M. K. Stalin at 12:30 pm today. Yogendra Yadav was accompanied by Avik Saha (Convenor Jai Kisan Andolan), Christina Samy (National Vice President Swaraj Abhiyan), K. Vijay Rao (Member Advisory Board Swaraj Abhiyan) and K. Balakrishnan (Spokesperson Swaraj Abhiyan Tamil Nadu Unit).
Swaraj Abhiyan submitted a memorandum to LOP regarding the upcoming Farmers’ Rights Yatra being undertaken by Jai Kisan Andolan, Youth4Swaraj, National Alliance of People’s Movements, Ekta Parishad, Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture and other like minded farmers’ unions and associations.
The memorandum consisted of a copy of orders and directions of the Supreme Court passed in the ongoing Drought PIL, a copy of the petition filed by Swaraj Abhiyan to include the Government of Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Drought PIL, a copy of the objectives and the schedule of the Ulavar Urimai Payanam: Farmers Rights Yatra that is being undertaken by Swaraj Abhiyan along with a copy of the Manual for Drought Management prepared by the Centre and placed on record in the Drought PIL. The memorandum also consisted of Remunerative and Universal Price Yield Assurance (RUPYA) scheme proposed by Swaraj Abhiyan.
Swaraj Abhiyan President and Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan is arguing the case for Swaraj Abhiyan in the Supreme Court.
Leader of Opposition M. K. Stalin assured the delegation that he will raise the demands for farmers’ relief in Tamil Nadu Assembly as LOP and in the Parliament through his Party Parliamentarians.
Swaraj Abhiyan also held the inaugural session of the Ulavar Urimai Payanam: Farmers Rights Yatra at 4: 30 pm today at ICSA Center 107 Pantheon Road, Egmore Chennai.
The Yatra will cover 16 villages of the 7 severely drought affected districts of Cauvery Delta region. The Yatra was flagged off by Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Former Governor of West Bengal
Swaraj Abhiyan appeals to all political parties to rise above their party politics and activate their frontal organisations to help farmers in these times of distress.
