Farmers stage massive demo at Jantar Mantar

NEW DELHI : Bhartiya Kisan Union, amalgam of several regional farmer unions, today staged a proterst demonstration at Jantar Mantar against the alleged high-handedness from the government.

A large number of farmers, from the state of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Jharkhand, participated in the demonstration.

The farmers were demanding implementation of Swaminathan Ayog and exemption of debts.

While condemning the Mandsour incident in which seven farmers were shot dead by police authorities, Rajesh Singh Chouhan, Vice president, Bhartiya Kisan Union said, “The actions of present BJP government are more atrocious than those of British imperialists.”

Chouhan also demanded the compensation of rupees five crore to families of each victim, shot dead in Mandsour.

Terming the government deceitful, Chouhan said, “They (BJP) had made promises to exempt the farmer debts and ensured fifty per cent profit on the cost price of crops to the farmers, but have failed to fulfil the promise.”

While demanding the immediate fulfilment of the promises made to farmers by PM Modi, he said, “If our demands are not met we will give up the farming practice and stir mass protests across the country.”
