Farmers from sixteen states meet in Delhi

NEW DELHI : Farmer leaders from across the country today met in New Delhi to map out the future course of action of the farmer agitaion. The meeting under the banner of Indian Farmer’s Liberation Movement saw participations from sixteen states including Kerala, Punjab, Madya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal. The meeting was called by Swaraj Indian.
In the meeting farmer leaders put forward two immediate demands to the government: exemption of farmer debts and implementation of Swaminathan Ayog.
Castigating the government policies, in the meeting it was said, that the agitation will continue till our demands are met. “Today, farmers from all over the country are united against the atrocious government that has been deceived farmers. It was promised that the farmer’s debts will be exempted and the crops would be sold at fifty per cent profit on cost price. But when farmer’s in Madya Pradesh took to streets to make their voices heard, they were shot dead,” P Ayakannu, president Tamil Nadu farmers union.
Raju Shetty, MP from Kolhapur, Maharashtra while speaking to Ten News said, “We started the agitation to make the farmer’s demands met in Maharashtra and you know the result. No we are looking forward to take the movement forward and fight for the rights of the farmers of the entire country.”
