GOVERNMENT OF NCT OF DELHI G.B. PANT HOSITAL: NEW DELHI

The Golden Jubilee of the G.B. Pant Hospital was observed on 30th April, 2014. Fifty years ago i.e. on 30th April, 1964 G.B.Pant Hospital was dedicated to the service of nation by the first Prime-Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. On this occasion a solemn function was organized today in the auditorium of Rashtrapati Bhawan in which commemorative postage stamp was released by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The stamp depicts intervention being performed by two doctors. The function was attended by Shri Najeeb Jung, Lt.Governor, Delhi and other senior officers of Government of India and Delhi Government. Top medical professionals and doctors and staffs also attended the function. Rich tributes were paid to the contributions made by this hospital in the field of super-specialty health-care.

In another function held in the evening at the Auditorium of Maulana Azad Medical College, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi, the Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari was the Chief Guest. Shri Najeeb Jung, Lt. Governor, Delhi also graced the occasion. The function was enthusiastically attended by the faculty and staff of the hospital. The Vice President addressed the gathering and appreciated the contribution of G. B. Pant Hospital in the service of humanity and state of art medical care. Vice President also released the “Souvenir” on this occasion and also felicitated the distinguished alumni of the hospital. The former Director i.e. Padma Vibhushan Dr. S. Padmavati and noted Cardiologist Padma Bhushan Dr. M. Khalilullah were felicitated for their outstanding contribution. Among the staffs, contributions of Mr. Kirti Bhalla, Technician and Mrs. Lucy Patricia Simon, among the Nurses were recognised and felicitated with momento. A short documentary film on the 50 years’ journey of G. B. Pant Hospital titled “Temple of Hope’ was also shown during the function. Former Directors of GB Pant Hospital Dr. S. Padmavati, Dr. M. Khalilullah Dr. S.K. Khanna, Dr. Veena Chowdhury, Dr. Veena Malhotra, Dr. S. Chutanni were among those present during the function.

Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital was established in 1964 and inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. It is a leading super speciality tertiary care institution in the country having 7 superspecialty departments – Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, G.I. Surgery and Department of Psychiatry. To support these, active para-clinical departments give the matching contribution in the areas of Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anaesthesiology, Blood Bank and Radiology. It is a centre of excellence which offers safe and quality health care through a humane approach. It services as centre of excellence for the patients from whole of north India. It has developed various pioneering techniques for the first time in the country.
At present, G. B. Pant Hospital has a bed strength of 691. It has 10 ICUs with 132 beds and 01 CCU with 22 beds. In 2013, the annual OPD attendance was 6,96,212 and 27,177 patients were admitted under different superspecialty departments. This institution has the latest “state-of-the-art” equipments, modular operation theatres, Cardiac catheterization and interventional Cardiology facilities. A separate acute coronary and acute stroke facility has been created for providing emergency services. The hospital has completed first phase of computerization, including the OPD, Pharmacy, stores, accounts and procurement. All the services are free at GB Pant Hospital except nominal charges for C.T., MRI and Nursing Homes Wards.
