With festival of Rakhsabandhan around the corner, the preparations are underway in different households to make it memorable. However on these time of increasing environmental concerns, a 12 year old student of Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj has come up with an innovative idea to make this Rakshabnadhan more memorable.
Raghav Mathur, a Class 8th student at DPS, has churned out a Do It Yourself (DIY) trick to make an environment friendly Rakhi.
He said, “The rakhi that I propose is plantable and both brother and sister can jointly plant it in a pot or soil and see a plant grows after 5 days. What fun to see a rakhi growing into a plant otherwise all these years rakhis used to be thrown in dustbins”.
Detailing of the things required, he mentions, “We just need a coloured ribbon, some spices lentils eg.coriander seeds, cloves, green moong dal, water melon seeds etc., fevicol, .round face wipes/ round cotton pads and few beads/stars, sparkles etc. to make it beautiful”.
His DIY methodology is simple and easily adoptable. Explaining the same he lists the following Six steps :
METHOD
- Cut the ribbon according to the wrist size of your brother
- Place the cotton pad or foam cut in round shape or thin cardboard in the centre of the ribbon
- Now very neatly place an elaichi in the centre or if you have a small Ganesha or om then place it in the centre with fevicol. Put fevicol all over the foam
- Start placing seeds around the Ganesha very neatly.make layers with different seeds till the foam is fully covered.
- In the end leave place for bright beads.this will brighten up your rakhi. You can also decorate with stars/sequins/ bindis or sparkles
