Five Times World Cup champions Australian Cricket Team were eliminated by England at the ICC World Cup in 2019. Host England defeated the Kangaroos by eight wickets. With this win, the host England team reached the finals after 27 years. At the same time, with the defeat, the dream of winning Australia’s sixth World Cup Diminished.

England who hadn’t beaten any of India, New Zealand & Australia in a World Cup match since 1992. They have now beaten all of them in their last three matches to march into the final of Cricket World Cup 2019.

Australia, who won what was considered a potentially pivotal toss, were on the backfoot almost immediately and Finch was among the early wickets to fall after failing to score.

“We were totally outplayed,” said the captain after Australia’s first World Cup semi-final loss. “The way they set the tone with the ball in those first 10 overs was a huge part in the game.

“You expect the new ball to seam a bit on any surface but they bowled a great length, hitting the stumps a lot.

“There are still a lot of positives to take out of the campaign and from the last few months, we’ve come a long way from where we were last year in ODI cricket in this country.

“You always want to win the trophy but there have been a lot of positives. A lot of hard work has gone in from a lot of people. I’m proud of how the group has progressed but this still hurts.

England Captain Eoin Morgan after the post match Press conference said,

“If you had offered us the position to play in a final the day after we were knocked out of the 2015 Cup, I would have laughed at you. Everybody out there on the field and in the changing room loved every ball that was bowled,” he said.

“There was no lack of commitment, application and we had a bit of a day out. It’s cool when it happens like that, particularly when the bowlers bowl like that. It is awesome.”
